About Slow Trip Japan

A Local Japanese Sharing Real Experiences Around Mt. Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes

Slow Trip Japan is run by a Japanese local who lives near Lake Kawaguchi, right at the foot of Mt. Fuji.
Every article on this site is based on firsthand experiences — places I actually visited, food I tasted, and moments I experienced in the Fuji Five Lakes area.

My goal is simple:
to share real, local stories and show travelers the quieter, more authentic side of Japan that guidebooks often miss.

Why I Started This Blog

Living near Mt. Fuji, I often meet travelers who only visit the most famous spots — places that are crowded and commercialized.
But the Mt. Fuji region has so many peaceful corners: small lakeside paths, cozy cafés, local onsen, historical villages, and hidden viewpoints only locals know.

I wanted to create a site that shares these real experiences, so visitors can enjoy Japan slowly and meaningfully.

What You’ll Find on This Site

Fuji Five Lakes & Mt. Fuji

Here I share the places I personally visit in my daily life around Mt. Fuji — quiet viewpoints, lakeside paths I walk often, small local trails, and the seasonal changes I notice living here year-round.
These aren’t sightseeing spots I discovered online; they’re places I’ve actually stood, photographed, and experienced in different weather and seasons.

Local Food & Cafés

Every food or café recommendation on this site is something I genuinely ate or visited myself.
No sponsored posts, no rewriting from guidebooks — just my honest impressions, from small family-run restaurants to cafés where I often work or relax.
I describe the things I noticed as a local: the atmosphere, the people, the taste, the feeling of the place.

Local Experiences

Camping beside the lake, early-morning cycling, fishing, cottage stays, museums, seasonal drives — these are all things I personally tried.
I write about what went smoothly, what surprised me, what the weather felt like, and what I learned along the way.
If I recommend something here, it’s because I’ve actually done it and enjoyed it.

Helpful Travel Tips

Most travel tips come from situations I’ve seen visiting travelers struggle with — train mistakes, onsen etiquette, cultural misunderstandings, or simple things that are easy for locals but confusing for first-timers.
I explain them the way I would to a friend visiting me in Yamanashi: simple, practical, and based on real experience living here.

Our Philosophy

Slow Trip Japan focuses 100% on the Mt. Fuji & Fuji Five Lakes region.
This site isn’t a general Japan travel blog — it’s a collection of real-life stories, written from a local perspective.

We believe travel should be slow, personal, and connected to the land.
Through this site, I hope you discover peaceful places, local culture, and meaningful memories you won’t find in typical guidebooks.
